The Mischievous Raccon

For those with “urban raccoons” in their neighborhoods, it is common to see their adorable painted faces pop out of trashcans while scavenging for treats or discover them in home attics when the weather turns chilly. These creatures are usually nocturnal and tend to feed on small rodents, bugs, plants and human food. Native American tribes commonly referred to raccoons in mythology, heralding their cleverness and mischievous behavior. Some eastern Indian tribes such as the Lenape, Shawnee and Iroquois respected the creature so much that they developed a raccoon dance for special occasions!
